The goal of these classes is to facilitate regular, structured shibari practice, that aims to go deep rather than broad, helping you develop a firm grasp of the basics, understand why and how each technique works, build muscle memory, and get to know other participants.
The classes run every Tuesday evening. (NOTE: From January, the step 1 class will move to Thursday evening!)
6pm - 8pm: Beginner (step 1)
8.15pm - 10.15pm: Beginner (step 2)
Beginner (step 1)
Content: single column tie, wrapping, counter tension, x-friction, kannuki, half-hitch, nodome, rope handling, tensioning, introduction to Ichinawa (one rope play) & safety information.
This class aims to go deep rather than broad, helping you to develop a really firm grasp of the absolute basics so that you understand why and how each technique works, and also are able to move and control the rope fluidly and efficiently, and tie with an appropriate tension.
You are free to come alone or partnered. Most of the content of the step 1 class can be tied on your own body, but you are welcome (and encouraged) to partner up with another solo participant if you feel comfortable to do so.
You can continue attending the step 1 class for as long as you need in order to feel confident with all of the content, before moving into the step 2 class.
Beginner (step 2)
This is open to anyone who is confident with tying all of the elements listed in step 1 - if you are unsure, feel free to contact me to discuss. If many people feel they are in a grey area in terms of their skill level, I may alter the step 2 class in the first weeks to ensure everyone is in the same place before we move on. Once the class is more established, these things should hopefully iron themselves out. Eventually, I hope to offer regular participants an intermediate (step 3) class.
The class will build on the techniques learnt in step 1, add some more tricky elements, and build these elements into harnesses and floor ties.
Pricing (per person)
20€ / single class
90€ / flexible 5 class pass (use within 3 months)
150€ / flexible 10 class pass (use within 6 months)
Multiple class pass tickets are released first. Tickets for single classes will usually be released only 1 to 2 weeks before the class starts.
Reduced cost tickets & Sponsorship
Two 5 class passes are available for each class at the reduced cost of 75€ for those on a low income. Please contact me if you would like to book one of these places. If you can afford to, and you would like to sponsor another student who cannot afford to pay the full price, donations are very welcome. For every 15€ donated, I will be able to make one additional reduced cost space available. Money from any sponsored spaces which are not claimed will eventually be donated to charity.

Notes:
Ropes will be available to borrow and to buy.
Should you want something to sit on, you need to bring your own blanket, yoga mat or cushion. I intend to purchase some to store at the studio in the near future, but to begin with there will be none available.
Please bring your own drinks in closed containers, and leave them on the tables at the side of the studio (not on the floor).
Please take your shoes off as you come into the studio.
Arrive 15 minutes before the class starts to get settled so we can start on time. If you are coming to the 8.15pm class, please do not arrive before the earlier class has finished, as there is no waiting area. There are several cafes & restaurants nearby should arriving early be inevitable.
The studio is in a residential building. Please be quiet and respectful of the neighbours when arriving and leaving.
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. There is no changing area, although there is a small toilet which you can use. (It probably won’t be practical for everyone to do this so please try to come already changed, or change in the main area if you are comfortable to do so.)
The studio is next to ubahn Südstern. The exact address will be emailed to attendees prior to the workshop.
