Private Shibari Lessons

Private lessons are the most focused way to learn rope with me. One-to-one, with no group to keep pace with, the whole session is shaped around the things you specifically want to work on. I have the time to watch you tie closely - how you handle rope, how you position yourself, how you move the person you're tying - and give feedback and small adjustments. I can also work directly with your model, help you adapt a tie to their particular body, and take the time to find what works for the two of you specifically rather than for a room in general.

Private lessons are available to students of all levels, and we can explore wherever your interest takes us. Whether you want to deep-dive a particular tie, get feedback on work you've been developing on your own, or think about where your rope might go next, a private lesson can be built entirely around that.

Why learn with me

I have almost 20 years of experience in ropes, and spent many years bottoming for some of the most experienced riggers in Japan and Europe before I started tying other people. That time on the other side of the rope shapes everything about how I tie and how I teach. Knowing what rope feels like from the inside gives me an intuitive sense, when watching from the outside, of what a tie actually feels like for the person in it - what feels good, what's becoming too much, and how to spot and fix problems quickly. It also means I teach both people, not just the one holding the rope. The model's experience is a real part of the practice, and in a private lesson I can coach them as much as the rigger, which benefits everyone in the room.

I also have a background in performance and dance. Alongside a deep working knowledge of body mechanics, it's helped develop my sense of how a scene is paced, how tension builds and releases, how presence and attention shape what's happening as much as the rope itself. For students who are drawn to that side of shibari, it's one of my favourite things to teach.

Beyond this, I specialise in creating dynamic transition sequences, flowy partial suspensions, and ties that are both beautiful and intense. The way I tie is precise and technical, but not dogmatic. I believe shibari is an inherently flexible and adaptable art, and I try to teach in a way that encourages improvisation and experimentation.

Rope Bottoms

While I don't teach "bottoming skills" as a standalone subject, I'm very happy to be booked for private lessons that focus on the tied partner's experience - working through particular difficulties in the ropes, or developing both partners together. If you're a bottom looking to explore rope from the inside, you might also consider a tying session, where I take the rigger's role and we work through whatever interests you.
